For being so brilliant and having that dry sense of humour. Awesome Jeff for you.

Wot is this?
That´s the point, after some posts dedicated to Obama is time to change. Spring and nice weather is here in Spain at the moment, 20 degrees (Celsius), sunny weather, beers at the sun, nice food, sweat... everything makes you burn your blood inside your veins, we have all that but no money to enjoy even more. We have just that, the sun, the only thing that cannot be censored by the politicians. We the spaniards, plants aching for the sun and nothing else but the shade of the tourists´ wallets. Wot is this?, welcome to Spain.

In the mood for change
I'm still keeping an open mind towards Obama and the future. I never expected radical change - he's never indicated that he would give us that - however I know we'll get change because we've already gotten change. I tell myself that no, it's not Clinton's third term because surely Obama will offer new ideas and leadership. I remain hopeful.
I'm very disappointed in his choice for Rick Warren to give a keynote address at the inauguration. That was unnecessary and inappropriate - choosing someone so obviously bigoted to speak after you've been elected by such a diverse cross-section of people seems like a gratuitous slap in the face. I wish he would retract the invitation.
I have a friend who will be working for a union as part of their "Obama accountability" project. YES! That's what we need...for us all to get out there and make him do the right thing!

Obama won the lottery
At least and at last Obama won the lottery. The States seem to be a new country with a lot of people celebrating his victory and with all the eyes of the rest of the world on this handsome man that, by now, is the only fact we know about him. I will also like to comment how Mc Cain accepted this victory. For us his speech had been more important than Obama´s fans all over the country. Why?, well, he said: There are not red states or blue states, we are The United States of America, most of the people decided that Obama should be the president so let´s support him and congratulations to the afroamericans for the election. Far beyond being politictly correct, saying country in Spain means that you are fascist, not in the U.S.A. Then, I really wish that Obama behaves the way you all want to and that he works on deleting that american 100% image that we, the rest of the world, all have. Obama bless u all.

Radio Talk Shows
We all know that words have consequences. We have some of the most violent and hateful radio talk show programs (names like Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Michael Reagan, Neal Boortz for example) and millions of people in the United States tune into that kind of right-wing talk radio every day. Yes our speech is protected, however to be using the public airwaves to stir up anger, greed and basic evil, is very scary. Watching the McCain/Palin rallys recently reminds me of hate radio. It feels as though a climate of intolerance and hatred is being encouraged. Let's not forget that talk(hate) radio contributed to the genocide in Rwanda. Do you have such talk shows on your side of the world David?
Here all the radio shows are bought by the President, all but one, and that hatred seems to be the only punk attitude on this country. The main problem is that the radio station is owned by the Spanish Catholic Church and that´s not the best way to believe in the...journalist. Hatred, sadly, is the engine of life.

Tourists
In Spain they are welcomed, they bring money, brought money and will keep on bringing money. Tourism is the most important spanish industry. They help us and we fool them. We always try to put expesive prices for them, to fool them at the hotels...etc. This was, but it is not never more. Many people live thanks to them and they now are well treated, we love people from all over the world walking all over the country, enjoying Spain and our culture. But the question is...now that the dollar is at its darkest hour legions of european tourists will invade the States. Are the americans ready for this?, not talking about things to offer, just about if they really want people over there ignoring where is the country or thinking that the Empire State is in Miami. Sure you are but...what do you think Pam?

First an apology -- I have been absorbed and obsessed with US elections. One forgets that anything else exists - from Darfur to blogs.
Yes! Absolutely! The US population is undoubtedly ready for an influx of tourists! In fact, not only are we ready, we're eager for it. Since fewer of us can travel out, the next best thing is for you to come to us. It is imperative that this happen, and happen soon. If US citizens can't or won't travel around the world, it is in all of our best interests that the world come to us. So, I say, bring it on David!

I agree with u Pam. I´ve been there already for 2 days and New York deserves a whole blog but maybe next posts can be dedicated to The City. U are all ready for tourism or at least u know that we are also a part of the show, that u also have to be kind to us to spend our dollars there. Of course that many spanish people have gone and will go to New York (at least one city) as going to the promised land. All of u are extremely sweet with us and denifitely we all change our minds when we come back. We always are afraid of being shot at Mac Donalds or something but that´s not true at all. So, all the readers out there go to the States and you will enjoy for sure.

Obama
Surely he is going to be the next president of the States. What do we think about him?, well, we really think that he´s one of the best actors in the world. Highly influenced by Gene Simmons´ way of life he´s just focused on main problems but about the solutions...just smoke...sadly. To us he´s nothing but another product that will be thrown out as soon as he starts to face the real problems of the country. In front of european politicians he´s a rookie, good looking but without experience. I know, I´m just a spaniard not an expert but...Zapatero is the spanish president for doing the same and my country is at it darkest hour. So, you´ve been warned.
I'll take a rookie anytime over someone with "substance" who has taken us into an illegal and devastating war, who has trampled on our civil liberties, who has destroyed our relationships with much of the world and who has contributed to making the rich get richer and the poor poorer by giving tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans. Where has experience gotten us, I ask you? And hey, being good looking doesn't hurt if you have to see the guy on TV and in the papers for the next four years.

Good looking doesn´t hurt, I agree, but that´s not all. Anybody can be better than Bush, just hope that Obama can be able to face all the problems of the States. Now in Europe we are more worried about the KKK than for the polls, but most of us want Obama as president, specially if he respects the rest of the world and, as you well said, contributes to make richer to the poorest. Surely he´s more intelligent than Zapatero (my golden fish is) and for sure that his support from whoever must be quite strong to take him to be the president. Wish U.S.A. start to think like Europe, more open minded and less politicly correct. The dream can be true this time. Good luck.
I don't expect a President or Prime Minister to solve all the problems of the States and the world. What a tall order for a leader! What I hope for in Obama is an openness to seeing things in greys rather than black and white, a willingness to engage people who have traditionally been left out of the conversation and to act as though the US is not THE world but rather part of the whole. There are many dreams and hopes for what Obama is able to accomplish, however I think many people have a better understanding of politics to know that he faces many hurdles. However, I, and a great deal of others in the country and world, believe that this is an opening, a hope that at least some of our dreams will indeed come true. If we don't have hope what is there left for us?
